I’m not a big fan of talking about myself usually, but you’d probably like to know who you’re dealing with. So… In an itty bitty nutshell, here goes.
I’m a keen basketballer that was born far too short for great things above the rim. So I decided that I better find something I’m just as passionate about to keep myself “well grounded”. Video games and sneakers would prove to be a fruitless love affair and chasing girls as a professional ladies man was useless because I fell in love at 16… Well played Kim. I eventually discovered that drawing well, could evolve into designing well, which could evolve into making money to buy more sneakers!
I studied design and multimedia for 4 years while building my business and a teeny tiny list of clients. I received a few bits of impressive paper to show mum and got straight into learning business the hard way, I haven’t looked back since. I still play ball and fire up the xbox from time to time… But needless to say, I found something else that I’m extremely passionate about and I hope it shows throughout this website.

The Company
Light Creative
Light was established way back in 2000 while I was still kickin’ around Swinburne, wearing jeans 5 sizes too big. The aim of the game was to gather like minded people with #%&* loads of talent and collaborate on awesome projects together. Just one problem… We’re a bunch of talented kids without any business smarts whatsoever. Everyone had they’re own ideas and goals, so for the first few years, Light was essentially a banner for myself to freelance under. Eventually the business started gaining some momentum and I moved to Hong Kong for a year with a juicy contract. I came back to Melbourne with my tail between my legs having been ripped off a substantial amount of dosh. This however, turned out to be just what I needed.
After a decent reality check and a bit of business 101 from the streets (and a few short courses), Light has developed quite organically into the company that it was meant to be. With a structure of two directors and an amazing network of talented humans that we collaborate with, Light is now an essential creative resource for businesses, agencies and individuals that want to create cool #%&*.
The Studio
The Common Room
Our studio is rad! The Common Room was formed as a four way partnership consisting of myself, Eveline Tarunadjaja, Amanda Brizzi and Jeremy Ley. Situated in the middle of the Melbourne CBD in beautiful Mitchell House, we discovered a pretty dingy corner office on the 4th floor that was previously used and abused as an immigration office. We all threw a little bit of money in and had a crack at a renovation. I personally used it as an excuse to take photos of myself performing manual labor that would then be leaked to certain family members who claim I’m a bit soft and have girly “keyboard hands”. The rolled up sleeves, obvious flexed muscles and headband apparently didn’t help my cause.
After a good month or two of posing and hard work, we had a surprisingly spectacular little studio that suddenly wasn’t so little. A coat of paint, new floor and other essentials such as a lounge area, ping pong table, bar and xbox… We’re sitting pretty. We now have the space filled with the four of us as well as five other hand picked creative humans that make the space even better. We’ve even got a site, check it out.
